The Golshan district in Tehran, Iran, is characterized by significant challenges, including a history of delinquency and social unrest. Despite previous efforts to improve its infrastructure and address these issues, progress has been hindered by persistent problems. This research aims to develop a comprehensive plan to address the neighborhood's challenges by focusing on the redesign of public spaces and the integration of public art. By creating vibrant and engaging public spaces, it is hoped that the focus of residents, particularly young people, will shift towards art and away from drugs and criminal activities.
The theoretical framework of this research is informed by a review of literature and real-world case studies, which highlight the potential of public art in urban design. Public art, deeply rooted in societal context, serves to cultivate community-centered art and foster a culture-centered society. With its direct impact on public spaces and its ability to promote social interactions, public art plays a crucial role in enhancing urban quality and connecting people with art values.
This research seeks to leverage the transformative power of public art to redesign public spaces in Golshan district. By integrating public art into the urban fabric, the goal is to stimulate social interactions, promote cultural growth, and foster a sense of community. Ultimately, it is aimed to create a more vibrant, inclusive, and culturally rich environment that enhances the well-being and quality of life for residents of Golshan district.
